Recent Activity

I have not been posting lately.

Between work and freelance jobs, I have had no time to do personal work. Not like the real freelance days (cleverly and creatively called B.T. or Before Tocquigny.) I used to have time in between the work to doodle and sketch and draw. I used to have time to illustrate an ‘Illustration Friday’ assignment on Friday. Now I have an office to go to, and while I get to illustrate for them, I get the feeling that illustrating inane concepts removed from our typical clients would be frowned upon. I like this job, I do not want to be frowned upon.

I have spent some time writing and concept-ing some stories that have been swirling around in my brains for a few… years. Last night I had a new idea, and am trying to run with it. I only have five lines, are you ready for this?

A man stands in a lonely field, the remnants of the recent wheat season blowing in the wind around his feet. His jacket is worn and tattered; his clothes hang off of his skinny frame, he stands a little hunched, tired.

Twelve men in uniform move quickly across the field; their boots stomp loudly as they crunch the decaying wheat.

The man looks up with little surprise, as the group approaches him. He casually looks up, as a man walks through the group wearing a business suit and tie, instead of fatigues.

“Who are you? We tracked your ship.” The business man says, demandingly.

“You must be Col. Lindsay.” The lonely man in the field says. He quickly brings his arm up, holding a high-tech weapon at the Colonel . “They told me about you.”

Lindsay smiles, his eyes hidden by the mid-day sun shadows. “I doubt you know the whole st-”

“Two hundred years.” The lonely man says, holding his target in sight.

“They gave it to me!”

“It wasn’t theirs to give. They want it back.”

They they referred to will be aliens. Imagine the landscape like the stills from the ‘Assassination of Jessie James by the Coward Robert Ford’ movie. Tina and I were watching some Alien Files episodes last night (I think she’s a believer, now.) The unnamed guy is an abduct-e who spent a few years with his alien abductors and became friends with them, finally being labeled ‘Ambassador’ of Earth for Alien/Human relations by the aliens. Col. Lindsay is a former abduct-e by the same aliens, having used them to gain access to some element that has allowed him to live for two hundred years. Lindsay is the primary antagonist, being backed by the Military.I am sure that I’ll have sketches for this over the following weeks.
Thanks.
