I was looking around Pinterest the other day for hair inspiration. I came across an image of Ingrid Michaelson, I had never heard of her, and really wanted to draw that image. So I did. By the way, she is a singer/song writer.

You read Regretsy, right? Recently the army that is the Regretsy community was asked to illustrate (in whatever magical medium they choose… ) a woman’s fears as a birthday present. Her fears are a) being eaten by a bear, b) raped by a dolphin, c) abducted by aliens. Or all three. I felt like this was something I should illustrate. Also, it was for a good cause, “My friend “A” is a social worker who works tirelessly to ensure that the needs of homeless individuals, youth, and families are met. She also inspired me to join the social work field.”

I drew an alien forcing two stuffed animals (a dolphin and a teddy bear) into having sex. The dolphin is totally into it but the bear has a single tear. I put it all into a kid’s room to help with the “why are there two plush animals?” question. It’s not perfect in the context of the request but I feel like it’s a lot creepier that this is happening within feet of the baby and baby monitor. I also dealt with the lighting, having a low light from off frame to add to the drama of the scene.

Then I did the line art where we went through a few different faces for the alien (click the image to see it larger):

Finally settled on this after listening to the forums. Some people felt the tiny eyes and big grin is far creepier than the big eyes (which were going to be glowing). I also added a UFO onto the mobile over the baby’s crib. In the original sketch there were Legos spread across the floor for that “kids room” feel. In the inking I felt like letter blocks were more appropriate. Then it hit me, I could totally squeeze “CF4L” into there (which is relevant to Regretsy’s interests). Then I pumped out the colors getting to about 3/4 of the way finished before I had to take care of real-life stuff. I finished the colors the next morning. I think, overall, I spent about two hours and forty-five minutes (2:45) on the whole thing (click the image to see it larger).

I was sketching the other night during the last few minutes of learning a new skill in Glitch.
This is the sketch:

I worked off of this image and roughed up a color comp for fun, but I couldn’t just levee it here… it didn’t feel complete.

So I took a screen-cap of my naked Glitch and imported it into Flash. This is the resulting image. The thing around his neck was going to be a rook skull as a necklace but… Rook skulls are huge. So I stopped.

(the main body is blurry because it was a TINY image.)

Tina and I have enjoyed computer games in the past. Recently we got to Beta test ‘Glitch’ a MMO game about little people that are dreamt up inside the minds of Gods/Giants. It is addicting. VERY addicting. Sadly the beta test ended WAY too soon. Luckily, it’s coming back. Soon.

I was using our car the other day but Tina had a dentist appointment in the morning so I took her and waited in the lobby until she was finished. I took that time to have a cup of coffee and sketch the office.

This one has Tina on her laptop/external monitor that she is having to use right now since the screen on her laptop is going out. On her head is our cat, Mojito, making friends with some moths.

I am finally starting on a larger project for myself.

This is a rough sketch that I did one afternoon without thinking about it. It became the basis for the characters and mood.

I have been working with more super hero forms. I have this story in my head about these heroic looking robots… I am also working with more dynamic poses.

This is an illustration that I started a while ago and have been working on off-and-on.
It is about my relationship with religion(s) and spirituality.

This is how it started:

I knew kindof what I wanted.
The line work really pulled it together though the composition was off. The right side was just too light.

Finally I got all of the color and effects in.
